INTERACTIVE KIOSK

In Biodiversity gallery, there are many model scenes were setup in the Hong Kong Science Museum. In order to have interactive element instead of showing the scenes, SenMedia had developed a touch kiosk system which can be used to control the lighting and sound of the scenes. Also multiple language introductions are available in the kiosk.

Beside the inland scene there are some other scenes such as nesting site of green turtles. The scene can be set in day time or night time. The kiosk will also show the introduction and video about the biodiversity scene corresponding to the scene environment.

Other hand the scene, different kiosks are setup in the exhibition hall in order to provide convenience information checking point to visitor. They support also multiple language with nice graphics and videos for the introduction to different animals.

Biodiversity Gallery

The Biodiversity Gallery imitates the diverse natural environments and habitats on the planet, allowing you to enjoy an immersive experience. As you walk through the whole Gallery, you will be able to explore nature in a visual, tactile and intellectual manner through interactive exhibits, dioramas and specimen displays based on four distinctive themes, namely Local BiodiversityVariety in the WorldChanges through Time and Nature Lab.

Local Biodiversity, the first exhibition area, introduces the vibrant nature of Hong Kong from the aspects of a terrestrial, marine, estuary, stream and an aerial point of view. You will find typical information on endemic species of plants, mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, freshwater fish and insects, as well as wildlife habitats such as woodlands and sandy beaches in Hong Kong.

This area is connected to the next one, covering the theme Variety in the World. A huge variety of the world’s life forms is presented here. You will travel from a flat grassland across a dense jungle and then to the depths of the ocean, where you will learn more about the flora and fauna around the world, the adaptation of animals, as well as the global problem of the extinction of species.

Out of the ocean, where life once started, evolves the next theme Changes through Time. Your curiosity will certainly be triggered here. First you will be captivated by a vast graphic on the wall, showing the genesis of life from simple cells to the appearance of complex life forms such as Homo sapiens. Through a series of enlightening interactive exhibits, you will also learn about the history of the Earth and gain an insight into the life sciences.

At the centre of the Gallery, there is a research station called the Nature Lab. You will become a scientist, experience hands-on scientific research and learn experimental techniques such as microscopy. Your attention will also turn to an extraordinary artwork on the wall of the Lab. The artwork appears to be a painting, but if you take a closer look, you will find that the patterns are made up of specimens. The Lab will certainly capture your imagination with some of the marvels and beauty of nature.
